Robocop Podcasts!

As sometimes occurs during these retrospective series, I get called up to guest on the show I boast the most, Out Now With Aaron and Abe.  In conjunction with the Robocop remake, I not only did the weekly episode for the show, but we also did another one of the popular commentaries on the original Robocop.  In addition to myself, the commentary features Aaron and Jim Dietz, and its actually a really great discussion about the Robocop series, remakes and filmmaking of the 1980s.  Its pretty impressive.  Be sure to check these out if you have the time.

Delta City's Finest: Ranking The Robocop Franchise

So what have we learned about Robocop?  I think we’ve learned that it is one really awesome/great/all-time/classic movie that still holds up and demands to be seen still to this day, but an incredibly weak franchise that has never risen close to the heights of the original or has lived up to even lesser but good sequels.  Paul Verhoeven is the one man that understood how this thing worked and also was able to successfully translate it to the big screen.  I like to give a lot of credit his way, but a case could also be made that this story and character truly can only work for one movie.  The more you focus on him and the longer you follow the goofier and more ridiculous it can get.

Robocop Retrospective: That Time I Was Keen On Including Prime Directives...

So, when I started this retrospective I said I was going to do something different and cover this 4 part mini series that bombed on the SyFy channel back in 2001 when it wasn't afraid of itself and called the "Sci Fi Channel".  Its a mini series that takes place 10 years after the events of the Robocop 3.  However, its picks and chooses from continuity what it wants to have and have not taken place from the 2nd and 3rd Robocop movies.  Its got a new actor playing Robocop and once again has OCP (yeah, you know me) as a player in Delta City.  All the episodes were feature length and somewhat of a serialized story.  It got away from the kid centric stuff and went for a more adult tone.  However, the effects were pretty poor and kept it from achieving a full and serious adult entertainment venture.
