Just a quick note to my readers -  This is not the start to my next retrospective.  I have volunteered to join onto FORGOTTEN FILMS' 1984-A-Thon, a massive blogger participation project reviewing over 100 films from 1984 on over 100 blogs(lots of great reading material, too. Check it out!).  My contribution to this is the controversial film SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT.  We may go back and do the rest of these films in the near future, but this is currently just a one-shot.  The David Fincher retrospective will hopefully begin very soon.

Ranking The STEP UP Franchise

Here we are at the end of the double-retrospective.  Step Up was probably territory that you didn't expect me to cover here on Naptown Nerd.  I personally find fun in exploring a film franchise that I have no experience with.  I'm not some negative Nancy, I don't turn my nose up to the idea of someting I'm unfamiliar with.  Step Up was something I never checked out and largely ignored but that's mainly because I thought I knew what it was, but really had no idea.  And really to know something or pass judgement on a film you need to see it for yourself before you can trash or act like you know something about it.  These aren't perfect movies and they were never meant to be, and the stronger films in the franchise grasp that.  I found myself enjoying more films in the series than I didn't.  There are 2 of these films I really think people should give a spin.  They are basically kung fu movies with intense dancing instead of fight scenes.  If you dig midnight movies, b-movies or crazy movies, you should definitely try and check out the top 3 on here.  Alas...rankings...and that tease to the next retrospective.

Slice By Slice: Ranking The TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Movies

I don't know what it is, but I'm always going to have a soft spot for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I don't eat everything up, but when something of an event comes along with them...a new movie, a new show...my interest is always peaked.  My hardcore time has passed, but it was definitely THAT hardcore that I'm still call myself a fan.  One of these days I'm going to get to this new animated series and catch up and I'm actually kind of excited about that.  Honestly, when it comes to the Turtles on film, things aren't too strong.  They have one legitimately great film and the rest is a mixed bag ranging from awful to merely solid.  Let's see how I've placed them:

 4 basically strips away all the fun, lively characters and shamelessly silly plot devices, leaving audiences to sit through dead-eyed models longingly staring at each other like they're in a Revlon commericial.
